"Big vs. small" - Road safety in urban areas

September 2024

On October 16, 2024, the time has come again: The 12th Allianz Motor Day will take place as a hybrid press event with guests at the AZT as well as digitally to connect from all over Europe.

Exciting topics are once again on the agenda this year - this time we are focusing on how we can improve the safety of vulnerable road users in urban mobility.

With increasing urbanization, traffic space is increasingly becoming a scarce resource for which various road users are competing. This increases the risk of accidents for everyone involved. Vulnerable road users are particularly affected. In 2022, 80 percent of fatalities in German cities were pedestrians, cyclists or motorcyclists! Across the EU, the figure is 70 percent. In addition to cars, trucks pose a particularly high risk. Only 6.1 percent of all vehicles registered in Germany are trucks (from 3.5 tons). However, they are responsible for 22 percent of road traffic fatalities.

Reason enough to take a closer look, among other things, at delivery traffic in cities, especially vans up to 7.5 tons, at the 12th Allianz Motor Day. And we will discuss with you how to better protect vulnerable road users and exclusively present a recent survey and accident study by the AZT.

The press event is aimed exclusively at journalists and industry representatives, who will have the opportunity to follow the event on site or via online stream and address their questions to the experts present in person or via live chat. If you are interested, please contact azt (at) allianz.de.
