New AZT information document on repair painting of plastic components that interact with radar sensors

An important issue in accident damage repair is the repair painting of plastic components and their compatibility with radar sensors in modern advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

The AZT has compiled an information document on this topic, which is based on detailed investigations, provides comprehensive insights into the effects of paint coatings on radar functionality and describes repair options taking into account vehicle manufacturer requirements and the state of the art.

Detailed repair procedures for various degrees of damage are presented, with the use of radar-optimised base coats and compliance with the findings compiled by AZT being of central importance. The document covers important topics such as restrictions in radar penetration ranges, requirements for top coats for radar compatibility and other points to be observed that could impair radar transmission.

We invite all interested parties to familiarise themselves with this document to ensure that repairs to plastic components meet the highest standards and do not impair the functionality of radar sensors.
